it was a tragic Wednesday as seven delegates from the Borno State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) died in an auto crash along the Damaturu/Potiskum highway on their way to Abuja for the national convention of the party which is due to hold weekend.
Five other persons were said to have sustained severe injuries in the accident which happened at about 10:15am.
While one of the dead was identified as Hajiya Saratu Ibrahim Biu, a staunch party woman, the identity of the six others could not be ascertained when filing this report.
Until her death, Hajiya Biu was the Assistant Public Relations Officer, Borno Social Media Forum (BSF), the campaign forum of the state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Yobe State, Alhaji Yusuf Garba, who confirmed the incident, said a good Samaritan informed him of the accident and he immediately mobilised his rescue team to the scene of the incident.
He said the accident happened when a Volkswagen Saloon car and a Honda Perfection had a head-on- collusion while on high speed.
He confirmed the death of an APC stalwart Hajiya Saratu Ibrahim Biu and six others who were travelling to Abuja for the APC national convention scheduled to hold between Thursday , June 12 to Saturday, June 14.
Garba added that over N90,000 was recovered from the scene of the accident, including some other items belonging to the victims as he disclosed that the injured persons have been taken to a hospital in Damaturu for treatment.
