Impeachment: Nyako Doesn’t Deserve Any Mercy, Don’t Intervene – Gen. Hannaniya Tells Jonathan

Former Corps Marshall of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), General Anthony Hannaniya (retd), has urged President Goodluck Jonathan not to save the embattled Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako (retd), who is facing impeachment threat from members of the state House of Assembly.

The former FRSC boss, who made the plea in a chat with Saturday Sun, wondered how Nyako, who accused the president of sponsoring terrorism in the North East, would now turn around and beg the same person to help save his job.

It would be recalled that Nyako had in a memo to the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) earlier this year, accused the president of being behind the Boko Haram insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country. In the same controversial letter, he had also accused Jonathan of genocide.

However, following the moves by lawmakers to impeach him and his deputy, James Bala Ngilari over allegations of gross misconduct and nepotism among others, Nyako had hinted that if the need arises, he would seek the president’s help in stopping his removal from office.

“It has not reached that crisis point. We have supported him all this time; he has supported us and in situations like these when Mr. President’s support is required, we will seek it”, Nyako had told State House Correspondents on Thursday shortly after attending the inauguration of the steering committee of the safe school initiative at the presidential villa, Abuja.

But Hannaniya, who hails from Adamawa and one of the stakeholders in the state, said he was surprised that Nyako has made a U-turn to beg President Jonathan to save him after dragging the name of the president into the mud with his reckless accusations.

“I am surprised that Nyako is making a turn around. He who wrote so many unprintable things about Jonathan with regards to terrorists’ activities, is the same person who is now calling on Jonathan to intervene.

“We pray that Jonathan will stay clear of this issue and allow natural justice to take its course because Nyako does not deserve any mercy at all”, Hannaniya stated.
