The Adamawa State Acting Governor, Alhaji Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri, has indicated interest in the October 11 Governorship bye-election in the state.
Fintiri wants to run under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The acting governor while confirming the development to newsmen in Yola, the Adamwa State capital, disclosed that he decided to take that action based on “popular demand”
He said, “The voice of the people is the voice of God and I have no option than to succumb to the sustained pressure by the people of Adamawa to join the race.
“I am a grassroots politician who has been in touch with the people since I joined politics and all my actions have been guided by the people”, Mr. Fintiri said.
Fintiri vowed that if he eventually becomes the substantive governor of the state, he would not disappoint the electorates.
The State Secretary of PDP, Shehu Tahir, said he is not currently aware of the development, but said “Fintiri has the constitutional right to vie for the exalted office if he so wishes”.
Recalled that Fintiri became the acting governor of the state following the impechment of Murtala Nyako by the state assembly last month.
Presently, the leading aspirants on the platform of the party include a former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brig-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) Barrister Awwal Dahiru Tukur, son of former National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur and Ahmed Gulak, ex-predisential aide on poltical affairs.
