The wedding of the daughter of Senator Abu Ibrahim to the son of Senator Mustapha Bukar earlier fixed for April 28 has suddenly been cancelled by the Emir of Daura, HRH Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, in whose domain the wedding is expected to take place, The Street Reporters exclusively reports.
The cancellation is not unconnected with the recent stoning of top Katsina politicians including Governor Aminu Bello Masari and Senator Abu Ibrahim at a function in Funtua by an angry mob.
Of recent, the masses in the North have resorted to attacking their elected representatives who they accuse of betraying the trust reposed in them by the electorate.
Though by no means acceptable and primitive, the people’s reaction is intended to send dire signals to other elected political office holders who traditionally abandon their constituents soon after winning elections.
The angry masses, fingered by inciting sermons by clergy, believe these attacks could force the politicians back on track as well as give indication of things to come during the coming round of fresh elections in 2015.
Concerned that the scheduled wedding of the two Senators’ children in draw could end in violence, the Emir cancelled the event insisting it would not hold in his domain.
